Spending a summer working at a summer camp is a fantastic experience but it is not all fun and games. You can expect long hours, little time off and not the greatest pay in the world! Still Interested? If so then read the information below to find out exactly what it takes and to discover exactly what a summer camp counselor job description involves.
Most summer camps operate from early June until late August. Camps will look to recruit camp counselors usually in October or November of the year before camp. Jobs are generally offered all the way up until they are filled and this can be in the early Spring.
The reason the process starts so early is that many camps offer camp counselor jobs to staff from overseas so the a whole process can be quite lengthy.
Most overseas staff looking for camp counselor jobs abroad generally go through a work abroad program and don't apply directly with individual summer camp. If you are looking to spend a summer working overseas in a summer camp position we would recommend viewing our work abroad travel programs page for details information on companies that offer these opportunities.
Most of these programs act as a kind of middle person between potential camp staff and camp organizations. If accepted into the program they will match you with a camp organization and help to prepare and process all of the required paperwork to work overseas.
Once at a camp, what exactly can you expect from your experience? Well, like we mentioned early it certainly isn't a holiday for you where you can just hang out at camp for a couple of months. It is long hours but is a great experience and one that will provide you with fantastic memories that will last a lifetime!
