Ski Season Jobs - Chefs, Cooks and Assistant Cooks

ski resort cookObviously when people are away enjoying a fun ski resort trip the last thing they want to worry about is having to make any kind of meals, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner. The great thing about this is that there are always lost of opportunities for ski resort jobs when it comes to catering.

Oh and don't worry if you are not a superstar chef with michelin stars coming out of your ears as all ski resorts will have various types of restaurants and eateries from basic burgers and hot dogs all the way through to fine dinning.

Before applying for any type of chef or cooking job within a ski resort we would recommend researching what qualitifcations are required and looking into taking some type of formal training. Most colleges offer different cooking qualifications and even if the qualification is only basic food hygene or basic cooking skills it is certainly good to have some kind of formal training before applying for a ski season job as a cook.

It is also a good idea to research what is involved in each catering position and what the hours will be before applying. If you want to make the most of the snow while you are working in a ski resort you may look at finding a position where you are only required to work of a late afternoon and evening, any on mountain restaurants would not be a great idea as these are obviously open and have their busiest time during the day while others are out enjoying the skiing and snowboarding.

What they say...

"I worked in Austria and Switzerland as a cook and an assistant cook, this was a great experience for me and not only was it a fantastic time working in these wonderful locations but it was great in helping further my career as a chef. I worked in a mid-range restaurant and was required to work mostly in the evening whch was great as I could then go and board most days. The biggest thing you must realise is that you are not the one on holiday and even though you will surely have a fantastic time working in a resort it is also hard work and long hours!"
