So once the ski season is done and dusted in the Alps or the Rockies, you can pack up your skies or board and head off in search of one of the many different New Zealand ski season jobs that are offered each season between June & October.

The resorts in New Zealand may not be quite as large as some of the most popular mega resorts in the northern hemisphere and the terrain may not be quite as challenging but if you know the spots to visit you can have a fantastic time doing a season in New Zealand and also take time to explore a wonderful country which is home to friendly welcoming people.

NZ Ski Jobs - Where To Go?

Most of the best skiing in New Zealand is found on the South Island, within a short distance of Queenstown or Christchurch although there are some fantastic spots on the North Island for those of you who would be more interested in finding a ski resort job in that region. Here is the lowdown on the different areas:-

New zealand Ski Season Jobs - South Island

Queenstown Wanaka - This is recognized as the adventure capital of New Zealand and offers great resort options and a fun laid back atmosphere for anyone looking to work a season in this region. Here you will find several different resorts (Coronet Peak, Cardrona, The Remarkables, Treble Cone). All of the resorts offer a variety of different terrain and have opportunities for individuals looking for ski instructor jobs, child care opportunities, food and beverage serving vacancies and much more. This is one of the most popular spots for season workers in New Zealand due to the great skiing and boarding in the area and its close proximity to Queenstown.

Mt Cook McKenzie - This beautiful part of the country offers 5 different resorts (Ohau, Round Hill, Mt Dobson, Mt Hutt & Porters). Each resort offers something for everyone some of the best skiing you will find in New Zealand. With Christchurch just a few hours away this region is a popular choice for individuals looking into New Zealand ski jobs, so competition for positions can often be tough. Some season workers will look to find temporary jobs in Christchurch and visit the ski resorts on days off, this can be a great option and gives you a break from the resort, if you want one!

NZ Ski Jobs - North Island

Although it may not be quite as popular as the south Island, the north island offers some great options for winter sports and has a variety of different ski season jobs for season workers. The two most popular regions on the north island to work a ski season are:-

Whakapapa - This is a very family friendly resort which attracts visitors from all over New Zealand. The ski area is on a volcano and you will find interesting runs and terrain on snow covered lava flows.

Turoa - This resort is located on the south-west part of the mountain and has great terrain for all skill levels. the terrain park here is very extensive and is a must for all the tricksters!

Both Whakapapa & Turoa are located close to the fun town of Ohakune, which is a bustling little spot with many options for individuals looking for ski jobs in New Zealand.

In general there are a number of good options on both the north and south island for people looking to do a season in new Zealand. The great thing about a number of the resorts in New Zealand, especially those on the south island by Queenstown, is that you will find a number of options in the near by cities so you are not limited to exclusively working in the resort.

New Zealanders in general are used to the backpacker and seasonal worker crowd so you will certainly be made to feel at home. One important thing to consider is that if you are not from New Zealand or Australia you will have to research how you can apply for a work permit to stay in the country and work a season. Most people will apply to get a 12 month work and travel visa, these are not to difficult to obtain but it is important you do so before jetting off to find that perfect ski season job that you have always dreamed about.
